Software Engineer (contract)
Cloud to Street is the world’s leading remote flood mapping platform. We use global satellites and remote sensing AI to monitor flood risk and detect worldwide floods in real-time. Seeded by Google, we have been used by governments across almost 20 countries for disaster relief efforts. Partnering with top insurers, we are now launching the first commercial parametric flood insurance product to better protect climate-vulnerable communities.
Cloud to Street is looking for an intermediate to experienced developer for a less than 1 month project who will help implement revamped wireframes for an existing dashboard website that will relaunch in a big way in May 2021. The application is a Global Flood Database of events derived from satellite imagery (based on a paper in peer-review, currently under review at the science journal Nature- see https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-65906/v1).
The data (over 900 flood events from 2000-2018 at 250m resolution) contains fascinating stories about dam breaks, population migration, and a diversity of local to global trends in large floods and their population impacts. We want to tell these stories, and help a diversity of interested users (from journalists, to urban planners, to insurance companies, to flood scientists) use the data effectively.
The website is built on React and Google App Engine, thus demonstrated skills here are a must. The dashboard displays maps so experience with spatial front-end visualization is extremely useful. We have specifications available for applicants to review upon request.
You will work closely with a UI designer and data visualization specialist in implementing new features and front-end branding changes, with feedback from scientists and insurance market experts to ensure the tool reaches a wide audience with scientific validity! This will be an excellent addition to any resume or portfolio because of the wide use and media attention it will receive.
Please email email@example.com with your CV, expression of interest, and portfolio of samples, public websites, GitHub repos, etc.
Cloud to Street is devoted to building an inclusive and diverse company. Black, Indigenous, and people of color; women, queer people, and all gender identities, and individuals with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.
